Guided tours in Terres de l'Ebre

Terres de l'Ebre. Throughout the month of December, Terres de l'Ebre has organized a series of guided tours to different parts of this area for tourism promotion area of demarcation. They form part of the itinerary of visits to the Field of Aviation Senia, the Tower of L'Aldea, Castle Mora d'Ebre, heritage of Flix, the fortifications of the village, the urban center of the Village and the town of Vilalba dels Arcs.

The Castle of Mora del Ebre
It is located in the upper part of the town, where you get a impressive panorama over the Ebro and its floodplain. It was built during the Muslim rule and conquered by Ramon Berenguer IV in the mid-twelfth century. Later, during the nineteenth century was a direct witness of the French war and Carlist wars. The castle tour includes the space known as the rifle tower, a construction of the time of the Carlist that has been recently restored. 

 

The Airfield of La Sénia
During the Civil War (1936-1939) the Government of the Second Republic, to defend themselves from rebel military coup, planned to build a series of military airfields in Catalonia. The Tower of the Chapel of La Aldea
The current environment of the hermitage of Mare de Deu de l'Almúnia was a Muslim village with a lofty tower. After the Christian conquest in the mid-twelfth century, the castle was renovated and the tower rises to better control the territory. This watchtower was rebuilt at least twice: in 1586 and 1856. And in 1914, demolished due to the bad state it was. The present tower is a reconstruction made in 1936. From the terrace of the tower you can enjoy good views of the whole country, especially the Delta and the final stretch of the river Ebro Some recent archaeological excavations have allowed rediscover the castle of L'Aldea. During the tour, access to the tower of L'Aldea, people also may see the remains of these old units, built by the Arabs on the structures of a Roman villa or factory. Inside the tower is the Interpretation Center of the Tower, which will help us learn more about this heritage defense.

The fortifications of Ametlla de Mar
Like many other municipalities, the coast of L'Ametlla de Mar was fortified during the Spanish Civil War, especially after 1937, when it was suspected of a possible landing of the national side arriving from Mallorca. Although never produced, the fortification process did not stop while possible, we now find fortifications in Sant Jordi d'Alfama, Cala Moscas, Cala Nova, the Port de l'Estany and Punta de l'Àliga, to name a few. They cover up and down throughout the county, highlighting two positions today. This is St. George of Alfama and the Port de l'Estany, for reasons of visibility and conservation in large part. On the Port de l'Estany there is an artillery bunker with a battery of three guns, with corridors and rooms interconnected, allowing both the hardware and guard the artillery crews. The battery Costa de l'Ametlla de Mar, popularly known as the fortifications was framed by the Catalan coastal fortification during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Second Spanish Republic. The location of this military complex is given by its privileged situation prevailing around the Gulf of Sant Jordi. The guide includes a visit inside the fortifications, space recently restored and a museum.
