A crib of sand in La Pineda Platja, unique in Catalonia, will continue until January

La Pineda Platja. Costa Dorada. The Crib of Sand of Vila-seca La Pineda Platja was completed on 12 December 2009 and can be visited up on 6 January 2010. For the tenth consecutive year, the beach of La Pineda hosts a monumental sand nativity scene erected on an area of more than 100 square meters. The project has been led by Núria Vallverdú and has enjoyed the participation of seven sculptors from Ireland, Holland, England, Estonia and Catalonia.

This year, the completion of Bethlehem Sand Vila-seca La Pineda Platja has reached its tenth edition. The sculptural group led by Núria Vallverdú has several gigantic figures with a baby Jesus in the foreground and large and two angels that surround it. The completion of the manger of Vila-seca sand began on December 4 and has completed eight days later. To do so it has taken more than 825 tons of sand and intervention by eight artists sculptors. The sand used is not the beach, as this is too thin and not last, so coarser sand is used. The Bethlehem Sand Vila-seca, which has always withstood the weather well and has reached the last day, is the only of its kind made in Catalonia.
